Waffle Tutorial #2

Waffle Tutorial

I completed a tutorial in regard to the development of a waffle system to gain a better insight into how a waffle system works before implementing Jeremy's for the assignment submission.

Tutorial can be found at: http://www.digitaltoolbox.info/grasshopper/waffle_part1.html

Tier 1: Backup

I have had problems trying to upload into the submission folder which I brought to Jermery and my tutors attention. Here is the backup if the folder doesn't start to work.

DESIGN SOURCES

Source 1: Cognition Model in Conceptual Designing

"This research paper reports the-stateof- the-art in the area of cognition models that present design activities in conceptual designing." - http://cumincad.scix.net/cgi-bin/works/Show?_id=caadria2009_031&sort=DEFAULT&search=design&hits=8122

Source 2: GEOMETRY AND ARCHITECTURE: NURBS, DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

"From its roots as a tool to describe and measure shapes, geometry as ‘the space science’ , has grown towards a theory of ideas and methods by means of which it is possible to build and study idealised models, not only from the physical world but also from the real world." - http://cumincad.scix.net/cgi-bin/works/Show?_id=0131&sort=DEFAULT&search=computer%20aided%20design&hits=8862

Source 3: Architecture: Form, Space and Order

"This paper incorporates contemporary examples of the principles of form, space, and order-the fundamental vocabulary of every designer." - http://cumincad.scix.net/cgi-bin/works/Show?_id=9d45&sort=DEFAULT&search=computer%20aided%20design&hits=8862

COMPLEX DESIGN

Source 4: Modeling irregular and complex forms

"With the advent of affordable computer-aided design systems (including drafting, modeling, visualization and simulation tools), architects believe they can be in full control of geometric aspects and, through these, of a wide spectrum of other aspects that are implicit or explicit in the geometric representation."- http://cumincad.scix.net/cgi-bin/works/Show?_id=avocaad_2001_13&sort=DEFAULT&search=complex%20geometry&hits=1403

Source 5: Fractal Geometry in Architecture and Design

"This paper explains the essence of fractal geometry to the design community. Many of the fractals can be drawn by hand and fractal rhythms for use in design can be derived from musical scores." - http://cumincad.scix.net/cgi-bin/works/Show?_id=0dfb&sort=DEFAULT&search=complex%20geometry&hits=1403

Source 6: Free-Form Solid Modeling with Trimmed Surface Patches

"Solid modelers store a more complete representation than wireframe or surface modelers. This completeness permits the automation of such tasks as interference analysis, mass property calculation, and finite element mesh generation." - http://cumincad.scix.net/cgi-bin/works/Show?_id=e9ef&sort=DEFAULT&search=complex%20geometry&hits=1403

Assignment 2 Grasshopper System: Planar Quad Experimentation

Above is some quick planar quad experimentation with use of weaver bird to extract more aesthetically applealing shapes. The top image shows some quick (I stress the word quick) renders of a few iterations from this graph seen in the grasshopper window. Through the iterations i was attempting to experiment with how different heights, amount of geometry and use of graphs would affect the resulting shape linked to a common point in the application.

Grasshopper Plug-in + Tute.

Stumbled Across a cool plug in for grasshopper creating interesting shapes. The Kangaroo Plug-in is a live physics engine for interactive simulation, optimization and form-finding for grasshopper. This lead to the use of the tapeworm plugin and resulted in this interesting shape which could be manipulated through the graphs.
