500 Words about my Final Design

The site on the corner of Cathedral Street and Crown Street was chosen as I wanted to design a building which would allow me to push my ability in Grasshopper to design a building which evokes a more emotional response from viewers due to its design as something which employs both aesthetical and function capabilities. As it is an entry point into the city the design has the ability to suit the area through its captivating design, drawing interest to the area and certainly ‘providing an exclamation mark for the area’.

As the site is residential, the addition of large office space would accompany this aspect well as people working in the building may eventually move into the area to be closer to work. The building offers grand views and I feel such a modern, forward thinking building would complement the area immensely and undeniably revitalise the area. The Two continuous flowing volumes amalgamate to create an internal world of continuous open spaces within the building, a new office and retail complex, taking the basic necessity of a building-like structure and generating an immersive, enveloping experience whilst still adhering to the design brief.

The continuous curved form offers unity and a sense of movement throughout the space created. Their arrangement throughout the centre of the different buildings acts as an integral communication mode that allows for connection to be enabled between the two building with possibilities for use including head offices, meeting areas, or open space for the entire office to experience which could cater to an office bar, restaurants or cafĂ©’s. The practical layout includes public, retail and amenity space for the lower levels, progressing to emphasise privacy on the floors directly above, home to the office space area of the building, and finally finishing on the top floors which will host the bars, restaurants or cafes
